FATF has removed Pakistan from grey list after its 3 days plenary in Berlin, Germany.
FATF is an International body established to deal with the money laundering, terror financing, global watch dog for the countries. It was founded in 1989 by the ministers of the Members countries.
It monitor all the countries and places them in the 4 categories white list, grey list, black list.
The countries in the white list can deal without any restrictions because they have strong anti Money laundering laws and a strict control over terrorism and Terror financing.
The countries in the FATF grey list are bound to make some progress on the laws and regulations as demand by the FATF board. Until they make some progress remains in the grey list and there is uncertainty in the future and financial investment by the international institutions and countries who fear from going the country in to the black list.
Asia Pacific Grove APG of FATF places the Pakistan on grey list. So far Pakistan has made significant progress. At first they make some improvement 15/21 demands and then 24/27 .
The PTI government led by Imran khan and his team compromised of economics minister Hammad Azhar who contributed majority level and contributions were made by him for the nation.
But APG again put further demand from Pakistan and now Pakistan has completed successfully all demands necessary now standing at 35/40 .
This is the second highest ever achieved by G20 countries in the history except UK who achieved 38/40.
In june 2022, the APG of FATF is reviewed Pakistan performance for last 3 days and it is much likely that Pakistan to be removed from the grey list . Just
FATF board will make official announcement about Pakistan & other countries in Berlin, later today 17 June 2022.
