Pakistan ask USA to help in resolving Issues with IMF

The US ambassador has been briefed on steps taken to revive the IMF program and stabilize the economy, but the Treasury Department has not yet commented on the matter. Yesterday, the government's economic team met with US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Bloom and asked for his help in this regard. The Pakistani delegation that met the US Ambassador included Federal Minister for Finance Muftah Ismail and Minister of State for Finance Ayesha Ghous Pasha. It should be noted that the United States is the largest partner in the IMF and it has been assisting Pakistan in the past in its funding programs. During the meeting, Pakistani officials told the US ambassador that the government had taken steps equal to 2.2% of its GDP for financial stability even in these difficult times. The government of Pakistan had hoped that after taking steps to increase petrol prices and increase electricity tariffs, the IMF staff would be ready for negotiations but the IMF would now not only withdraw the tax concessions given to the salaried class. He is also insisting that 125 billion additional revenue should be collected from the salaried class. The government of Pakistan is now working on a new proposal under which the relief of Rs 47 billion given to the salaried class will be withdrawn and an additional revenue of Rs 18 billion will be collected from it.

 امریکی سفیرکو آئی ایم ایف پروگرام کی بحالی اور معاشی استحکام کیلیے اٹھائے جانے والے اقدامات سے آگاہ کیا گیا ہے البتہ وزارت خزانہ نے سرکاری طور پر ابھی اس معاملے پر کوئی تبصرہ نہیں کیا۔ 

گزشتہ روز حکومت کی اقتصادی ٹیم نے پاکستان میں امریکی سفیرڈونلڈ بلوم سے ملاقات کی اور اس ضمن میں ان سے مدد کی درخواست کی ۔ 

امریکی سفیر سے ملنے والی پاکستانی ٹیم میں وفاقی وزیرخزانہ مفتاح اسماعیل اور وزیرمملکت برائے خزانہ عائشہ غوث پاشا شامل تھیں۔

واضح رہے امریکا آئی ایم ایف میں سب سے بڑا شراکت دارملک ہے اور وہ ماضی میں بھی پاکستان کو جاری ہونے والے فنڈزپروگراموں میں اس کی مدد کرتا رہا ہے ۔اس ملاقات میں پاکستانی حکام نے امریکی سفیر کو بتایا کہ حکومت نے ان مشکل حالات میں بھی مالیاتی استحکام کیلیے اپنی جی ڈی پی کے2.2 فیصد کے برابر اقدامات کیے ہی ۔

 حکومت پاکستان کو امید تھی کہ پٹرول کی قیمتوں میں اضافے اور بجلی کے ٹیرف میں اضافے کیلئے اقدامات کے بعد آئی ایم ایف سٹاف لیول مذاکرات پر تیار ہوجائے گا لیکن آئی ایم ایف اب نہ صرف تنخواہ دار طبقے کو ٹیکس میں دی جانے والی مراعات واپس لینے پر اصرار کررہا ہے بلکہ اس کا یہ بھی کہنا ہے کہ تنخواہ دار طبقے سے 125ارب اضافی محصولات وصول کیے جائیں ۔ 

حکومت پاکستان اب نئی تجویز پر کام کررہی ہے جس کے تحت تنخواہ دار طبقے کو دیا جانے والا 47 ارب روپے کا ریلیف واپس  لینے کے ساتھ ساتھ اس سے  18 ارب روپے اضافی ریونیووصول کیا جائے گا
